The founder of Barcelona Football Club, Hans Gamper,
was the oldest child of a well-to-do Swiss family.
As a youngster he combined his academic studies
with different sports, something which he always
shone at. Gamper was a superb athlete, but he was
also extremely good at other things like rugby,
swimming and cycling. His great passion, however,
was football. In his home town of Zurich, he founded
Excelsor and later played for Basilea and Zurich-
another team which he had helped to create. When
he was 18 he had to leave his native Switzerland
because of his work and move to Lyon, where he also
played in the local team.
