This TV Drama series focuses on three charming witches, the feuding Halliwell sisters --flirty but serious museum curator Prue (Shannen Doherty); conspiracy buff Phoebe (Alyssa Milano); and Piper, the middle sister that always seems to be the mediator (Holly Marie Combs). The supernatural siblings inherit their grandmother's San Francisco manor, learn they came from a witch coven, experiment with witchcraft, and discover they've been targeted by various warlocks and other evil entities. Filmed in L.A., this series premiered October 7, 1998 on the WB Network.

An ancient, antique green covered book rests at the bottom of the trunk in a thick pile of dust. Phoebe reaches in, takes out the book, 'The Book of Shadows'. Phoebe opens the front cover to see a centuries old woodcarving of coven of three women gathered around a circle, casting spells. And, on the first page an elaborately scrolled incantation. "Hear now the words of the witches. The secrets we hid in the night. The oldest of spells are invoked here. The great gift of magic is sought."

As the Halliwell sisters begin to discover, the Book of Shadows is more than just an antique publication in their attic. The book foretells the arrival of the three sisters called The Charmed Ones, the most powerful of a long line of good witches. While the legend proclaims them as the protectors of the innocent, it also warns of warlocks and evil beings (taking the forms of everyday people) who will stop at nothing to steal their powers. When siblings Prue, Piper and Phoebe begin to learn more about the book, their heritage and the unique powers that have been bestowed upon them, they must set aside their differences in order to stand together, knowing that they only have themselves to rely upon.

Charmed explores the relationship between three different sisters complicated by the discovery of supernatural powers that each possesses and consequences they share by keeping this family secret away from any outsiders as they find their respective ways in the world.

Season 3

As it enters it third season, "Charmed" continues to cast its spell over an ever-expanding viewer ship. Season-to-date, the bewitching drama has garnered the network's highest rating among women 18-34, and tied with "Dawson's Creek" for top honors among all viewers 18-34.

Last year, as Prue (Shannen Doherty, "Satan's School for Girls," "Mallrats," "Beverly Hills, 90210"), Piper (Holly Marie Combs, "Picket Fences") and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano, "Melrose Place," "Fear," "Who's The Boss?") battled for the lives, they discovered that being The Charmed Ones has a price far greater than they imagined. Having inherited their mother's obligation to save innocent souls through witchcraft, there's little time left for guy commitments. This season, as their powers continue to grow, they find themselves targeted for death by The Council, an all-knowing, all-powerful source of evil. Add to this dark menace a new assortment of warlocks and demons seeking to steal their powers, and it's easy to understand why staying alive ranks high on the Halliwell's list of "Things To Do."

Despite the conflicts that arise from being Piper's boyfriend, "Whitelighter" Leo (Brian Krause, "Mind Games," "Return to the Blue Lagoon") often finds himself in the role of their guardian angel. And as the only mortal who knows their secret, Detective Morris (Dorian Gregory, "Baywatch Nights"), does his best to keep his three favorite witches out of harm's way. With all the forces of evil stacked against them this season, these spellbinding sisters will need all the help they can get.

Season 4

The three Halliwell sisters were always different, not just from the world around them, but also from each other. Though bound together by blood and destiny, these twenty-something women could not have been more different. Yet, the discovery that the three sisters were powerful good witches, foretold as the Charmed Ones, created a bond that reached far beyond petty sisterly grudges, and they banded together to keep their otherworldly witchcraft a secret and vanquish all comers.
At the end of last season, Phoebe (Alyssa Milano, Who's The Boss?, Melrose Place) and Piper (Holly Marie Combs, Picket Fences) suffered a devastating demonic attack and lost their oldest sister Prue in the battle. Now, with the addition of a reluctant Paige, the reconstructed trio must attempt to overcome their pain and learn to deal with their new places in the reformulated family.

Newest to the Halliwell fold, Paige was raised by adoptive parents and always felt that there was something different about her. In the search for her birth parents, she learned that she was abandoned at birth at a local church, the result of a clandestine love between Phoebe and Piper's mother and a "Whitelighter" guardian angel. This ancestry resulted in her power to move things with her mind as Prue could and the added ability to "orb" in and out between planes. Paige's more experienced sisters help her harness the power in their battle against evil.

The free-spirited and eccentric Phoebe has always enjoyed the privileges that come with being the youngest. Now, she has to relinquish that role to Paige. Having graduated from college last year, she is working on gaining maturity as well as honing her martial arts skills and her ability to levitate. Phoebe's relationship with half-human, half-demon Cole (Julian McMahon, Profiler) continues to intensify, yet the reality that he is on the run puts their romance and their lives in constant peril.

Former middle child and usually the peacekeeper of the three, Piper is now thrust into the role of oldest sibling. Still juggling their successful nightclub with her recent marriage to the girls' Whitelighter, Leo (Brian Krause, Sleepwalkers), Piper seeks the inner strength to lead and look out for her two sisters. Her power to freeze time has evolved also to the ability to explode an object or demon at will.

Season 5

Celebrating a fifth season on The WB, it's going to be one "charmed" year for Alyssa, Holly Marie and Rose. 

Having reaffirmed their commitment to saving innocents, the Halliwells are determined to balance witchcraft and their ever-evolving personal lives. Phoebe, who has become a local celebrity with her advice column, will officially split from Cole. (But is it ever really over with your soul mate?) Paige continues to help the victimized as she struggles to establish her place in the Halliwell home. Piper and Leo don't know what to expect next. 

With all the changes and demands on them personally, the sisters' bond will be tested more than ever.

Season 6

 Bound by bloodline and their inescapable destiny, the sisters have found it increasingly hard to have any kind of a life (love, social or otherwise), and maintain a low profile. Flirting with danger has always been part of the job, but now Phoebe and Paige amp up the sex appeal even more - if such a thing is possible - to find themselves some soulmates. Not to be a party pooper, but can Piper balance the role of single mother on top of her good-witch duties while her sisters play? Or will the power of three begin to weaken? Questions even tougher to answer when a handsome new stranger descends on the manor.
