and the derby At the beginning of the 20th century, only the Milan
Cricket and Football Club existed. But on the night of March 9th, 1908, Internazionale
Football Club of Milan was born. It was formed by a group of players that rebelled
from the Milan Cricket and Football Club, or A.C. Milan. The club's name was chosen
as "Internazionale" because it was open to players of all nationalities, not just
Italians. To further prove the point, we must mention that Inter's first captain
was Manktl, a Swiss. Inter's colors were chosen to be gold, black, and blue, and
they still remain as the official colors of the club. When World War
I hit, Inter went through a lot. Many players were lost; some to battle, others
decided it was time to leave. However, Inter came back with high spirit, and they
remain today as one of the world's top clubs. Inter vs. AC
Milan Derby As of August 2000, Inter and AC Milan have played a
total of 246 matches against each other, the first match dating back to October
18, 1908 in Switzerland, at Chiasso. Up to 1928, the year Ambrosiana was formed
by the merger of the Internazionale and U.S Milanese clubs, Milan dominated the
matches played against Inter. It should be noted, however, that during
Inter's golden years, they remained unbeaten against AC Milan for ten consecutive
years. Also, in 32 out of the 64 single league (until 1929, there was more than
1 league) championships, Inter has placed higher than Milan in the final league
table, and that is without taking in consideration the seasons Milan spent in
Serie B (second division) in 1980-81 and 1982-83.
