The limitations of the Pilates method are given below:
-
Pilates is not designed to be a complete physical fitness discipline. It lacks cardiovascular training.
-
It is not capable as other methods of building maximum strength because it avoids high impact, high power output, and heavy muscular and skeletal loading.
-
Although it is marketed as a rehabilitation technique, its methods do not conform to modern day physical therapeutic knowledge and doctrine.
-
Pilates practioners also claim that it helps a person grow taller, but these claims are also not backed up by facts. The heights of Pilates practioners do not support such a claim.
-
Most of the Pilates equipment that is supposed to be distinct or unique can be said to be derived from pre-existing examples. For example, the "reformer" is similar to the rowing trainer, the "cadillac" appears to be derived from a gymnasts parallel and horizontal bars, etc.
