TATU BIOGRAPHY

Russian teen pop duo T.A.T.U. consist of Lena Katina and Julia Volkova, who were both raised in Moscow. Their 2002 debut album, 200 km/hr in the Wrong Lane, sold over 1 million copies in Russia, and the scandalous video ]for their first single, “All the Things She Said,” won MTV Russian’s Video of the Year Award in 2001.

The girls, under the tutelage of Svengali-esque manager and psychologist Ivan Shapovalov (who has also been called the Lou Pearlman of Russia), project a soft-core porn, lesbian-chic sensibility and claim to be in love. Whether it’s the truth or a marketing tool remains to be seen

On May 16th, 2001, Universal Music Russia signed a band, that critics, music journalists and record companies call the most outrageous and scandalous thing to ever happen to Russian show-biz.

Who are Tattoo? Julia and Lena, 2 girls, one is 15 and the other one is 16 years old. Both of them got into this project by accident, and instantly became national heroes.

November 2000. Tattoo, an unknown act, brought their first-ever video to MTV Russia. Despite (or, maybe, thanks to) its controversial character, MTV were brave enough to put it on air, and… Tattoo took Russia by storm.
